Uncommon Grounds - 575 Mt. Auburn Street

The place to get coffee in town. Peter Kaloostian's father passed this business down to him -- except Peter's father operated a gas and service station. UG has become the place in the neighborhood to read your Sunday paper. Excellent sandwiches, baked goods, and, of course, coffee. Outdoor seating in the summertime. Now serves Breakfast all day.

Good coffee, but we had bad luck with the breakfast. My GF asked for eggs over medium and got what were basically raw eggs. We had to send them back (which we hate doing, as we know what happens when you send stuff back) and it took a while for them to come out again. The potatoes were lackluster, and the breakfast was not worth the $$.

We've since returned, and now it's our favorite place for breakfast...so ignore my initial post. UC does rock, even more so than Deluxe Towne Diner.

The user named Ben offers his opinion that the potatoes here are "lackluster." Perhaps he went on a bad day because for me UNCOMMON GROUNDS home fries are the best in Boston. I always ask for them well done so they are golden brown. They also make an amazing Salmon Benedict. Be specific with the server regarding how you want your eggs. Mine were overdone once and they were happy to recook them, and they did so right away. Service can sometimes be a little slow when its busy but the tables move fast. Worth the money, worth the wait.

Also a great fish place, believe it or not. It used to be more of a fish market, in fact. I believe they do still sell raw fish but not from under the counter by the coffee :-). Great grilled fish sandwiches for lunch. They also carry soy milk which I appreciate, and make truly delectable soy lattes.

I have been going to Uncommon Grounds for years and I have always found it to be a great experience. I especially love their breakfast burritos and for lunch the sandwhich called Grammy's Girl always hits the spot. Many of my friends have raved about the Rubens, the turkey one in particular. And, since I am not a coffee drinker I look for a resturant that has good herbal teas. My favorites are the Moroccan Mint (for hot) and the Crimsonberry ice tea. Finally, I have always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Uncommon Grounds is a wonderful laid back cafe whether meeting friends for a meal or to sit and read.

I think Uncommon Grounds is a wonderful breakfast place. Their eggs benedict is delicious and their French toast and home fries with egg dishes are particularly good. Their servings are larger than necessary, but leftovers are always good. They offer flavored coffees and their teas are served in a pot with loose tea leaves. The wait staff is friendly and attentive.

I live right down the street. This place rocks!!!! Great coffee, breakfast, and lunch. My only complaint would be it's small, yet in good weather outside is an option. My favorite thing there is the Rueben. Yummm. I'm moving this week and I'll miss this place for sure.

Sully, you're moving? Noooooooo!
