Cameras on Pleasant Street

By ccook13 - Posted on 13 August 2007

My son recently pointed out that the traffic lights by the Repton Place development on Pleasant Street include video cameras mounted next to the traffic signals and aimed at the traffic lanes. Does anyone have any idea why these cameras are present? Is someone (police, Repton Place?) monitoring the traffic and if so why?

I think cameras are often used to trigger green lights these days. They are supposedly better than using under-pavement induction loops, and can recognize bicycles for instance.

Might be what is happening here.

They are watching us.

Yep - it's for triggering the light. And they aren't aimed properly - you have to pull into the cross walk to trigger the light.
