Phone pole falls on Cypress St. house; blackout ensues for parts of East End

By H2otown - Posted on 12 June 2005

H2otown would like it to be noted that she prefers it when news happens a little further from her house. She's pretty sure the occupants of this Cypress Street house wishes news happened a lot further away from their house. That phone pole that used to be out front is now in front -- earlier today it fell on their house.

No one was hurt.

A resourceful neighbor of H2otown's called the phone company and got the scoop: the fallen pole was reported by Watertown PD to NStar at 1:30 this afternoon, and an NStar employee commented that power would be restored to this East End neighborhood by 6:30 or 7PM. When H2otown snapped this picture at 3:30, she saw no power company workers onsite. A Watertown police vehicle was making sure no one got too close to the downed pole and power lines.

This isn't the first long wait time for NStar recently. During NStar's recently concluded strike, long wait times for a crew when a downed tree sparked an electrical fire allegedly made damage to another East End house greater, because fire personnel couldn't approach the house until the power was shut off.
