On Saturday, September 20, 2008, 5,000 fire fighters, from the United States and Canada made their 22nd annual pilgrimage to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial observance honoring 137 fallen fire fighters.

A 2-Alarm Fire occurred on September 21, 2008, at 14 Charles Street in Watertown. The report of a residential structure fire came in a little after 7 pm on Sunday night. Deputy Chief Edward Barrett established Incident Command and shortly thereafter the conditions present necessitated that a Second Alarm be ordered.
